Trying to change the world vs bringing more light and love to the world.

Can you feel the difference?

Lately I have felt drawn to watch movies that talk about the freedom for all. This has not been intentional for me, yet I have happened to be in the right place at the right time. A couple of months ago I watched a movie about Gandhi and a couple of weeks ago another movie about Steve Biko.

After watching these movies I have been reflecting on what was it that was so powerful in these people. These people who were speaking about freedom, freedom without violence. And what came to me was that they were talking about truth.

Truth is powerful.

When we hear truth we cannot deny it. We recognize the truth within us and even if we have been used to act differently, we cannot help but to recognize the truth.

For some people it may take a while. It may feel uncomfortable to begin the process of letting go of ones old beliefs. Letting go of something that we are used to. For others the change comes effortlessly.

But everyone who hears the truth will be touched by it.

One thing that I feel like is important to notice is that the truth always feels good. It makes everyone feel more free.

Why action that comes out of judgement is never really powerful?

Because it always causes resistance. The ego wants to respond to the ego.

However when we act and speak from that place of truth we go beyond the ego.

We speak from soul to soul and touch other souls.

We speak from that place of light and love and help the people around us to connect more with that same light and love within them.

The energy where we come from can be felt. It changes people around us.

If you reflect back have you ever changed for good because someone has judged you? Or do you remember a time when someone has been compassionate and loving towards you and because of that you have wanted to naturally do better?

Judgement is never the way for long-lasting change. Love is.

Showing up from that place of love in our everyday life is the best we can do to the world.

It touches our closest ones and the people we come in contact with. It creates real change. Change that happens within us and spreads to the world.

Nothing is more powerful than love. And love always speaks the language of truth.

Here at the end I wanted to put together some of my favorite quotes from people who I recognize that were talking about this truth, recognizing the beauty in us all:

Mahatma Gandhi:

You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is like an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.

When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall.

Permanent good can never be the outcome of untruth and violence.

Nobody can hurt me without my permission.

If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. We need not wait to see what others do.

It’s the action, not the fruit of the action, that’s important. You have to do the right thing. It may not be in your power, may not be in your time, that there’ll be any fruit. But that doesn’t mean you stop doing the right thing. You may never know what results come from your action. But if you do nothing, there will be no result.

Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that you do it.

Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.

Whenever you are confronted with an opponent, conquer him with love.

Hate the sin, love the sinner.

The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.

Martin Luther King, Jr

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

Forgiveness is not an occasional act; it is a constant attitude.

Steve Biko

If one is free at heart, no man-made chains can bind one to servitude.

Nelson Mandela

No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.

It always seems impossible, until it is done.

May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears.

One of the things I learned when I was negotiating was that until I changed myself, I could not change others.

There is no passion to be found playing small in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.

What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

Mother Theresa.

If you want to change the world, go home and love your family.

With love,
